Unique: five-section hardtop of the new VW convertible. When open, it takes up less space in the boot; when closed it conveys the qualities of a real four-seater convertible, both in the interior and in the spaciousness of the rear. The hardtop can be opened in just 25 seconds – thanks to its special concept, even in low garages. A large sliding roof has been integrated into the hardtop for even greater freedom of choice and individuality. It extends over virtually the entire roof width and incorporates a new slipstream deflector – for that convertible feeling even with the sliding roof retracted. The hardtop also scores from an aesthetic point of view, for example its harmonious integration into the vehicle design.

The Mini Convertible. This innovation from Webasto provides an intelligent combination of the open-air feeling in a convertible and the benefits of a fabric softtop with an intermediate opening. When the softtop is closed, it enables a large partial opening, similar to a folding roof – even when on the move. In a closed state, the roof provides excellent sound and thermal insulation. When completely opened, the softtop is compactly folded into the boot, resulting in an absolute convertible feeling – almost without encroaching on the luggage compartment.

Regardless of whether they are installed in the luxury or compact class, a sedan, minivan or SUV, panorama roofs are available as an optional extra for an increasing number of vehicles. A carefully coordinated slipstream deflector design significantly reduces annoying wind noise. It goes without saying that the panorama roof conforms to all safety requirements.

Whether open or closed, it has a positive effect on the well-being of the passengers. Its sizeable roof surface, usually extending from the front to the rear window, conveys a regular open air feeling, ensuring good visibility and lighting, together with an adequate supply of fresh air in the vehicle interior. With the roof opened, a drive in the open air can be enjoyed to the full. The expansive roof opening makes it possible.

Lamella Roofs
The lamella roof is a convincing illustration of how Webasto has been satisfying its customers’ needs over the years. With an opening of up to 70% of the roof surface, lamella roofs give passengers a generous open-air feeling – with maximum headroom. This is made possible by a design in which the individual lamellas overlap when the roof is being opened, thus stacking them in an extremely spacesaving manner. |

The lamellas may be made of steel, glass or surface-treated polycarbonate. The transparent materials glass and plastic permit visual contact with the outside, even if the roof is closed. In addition, passengers are protected from excess sunlight by the tinted lamellas and, if needed, a roller blind.

The extreme adaptability of the lamella roof enables it to be fitted to almost any vehicle type. Today, show cars demonstrating concepts based on lamella roof technology are being presented with increasing frequency at exhibitions and motor shows. Road tests with customers have shown that the above-mentioned benefits and effective slipstream deflecting lamella are judged positively. And with its opening size, the lamella roof exceeds expectations by far.
